Prudent Community Energy helps businesses, organizations, and community partners reduce energy costs through smarter electricity purchasing strategies.

We work as energy brokers for businesses and the communities they serve. Our goal is simple: help customers lower expenses, reduce exposure to market risk, and make better energy decisions without adding more work to their plate.

Prudent Community Energy serveS more than 160+ customers across Livingston, McLean, and surrounding counties, representing 600+ utility accounts and approximately $5 million in annual energy usage. During that time, customer savings averaged 21%, and 23% of revenue was given back to the community through support for organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, Child Protection Network, Rotary Foundation, Marcfirst, and LifePoints.

Our mission is to create a sustainable cycle of local reinvestment. By reducing overhead for local businesses, we don't just find savings; we create revenue streams that stay local. A significant portion of our revenue is donated back to community organizations, ensuring that every kilowatt saved contributes to a stronger, more resilient local economy.

Founder

Ron Slagel

Our founder, Ron Slagel, has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue and has been in the power industry for over 20 years, working for utilities including Ameren (Illinois Power) and Duke Energy, in addition to market operators and generation companies across the Midwest.

With experience in energy markets as financial instruments, as well as their physical operation in the delivery of a commodity every day, we are able to help our customers stay competitive and manage exposure to market risk, thereby helping the communities in which they operate.

We know how the energy markets operate, so we can offer you the best solutions for your business, financially and operationally, and let you decide what’s most important to you. We are not one size fits all, because energy rates definitely are not.
